Exhortation to Preach the Gospel

Jesus said, “Go you into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.”

( Mark 15:15 )

Jesus teaching at the seaside to the multitudes began speaking to them in parables. Jesus says, “Take heed ( look at, beware, regard ) what you hear: with what measure you mete, it shall be measured unto you: and unto you that hear  shall more be given. For he that hath, to him shall be given: and he that hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he hath.
( Mark 4: 24 - 25 )

( Matthew 25 )Jesus teaching at the Mount of Olives to the disciples in parables.
There, Jesus began speaking to the disciples the things they were asking him about. He begins to share with them the parable of the talents.
( Matthew 25: 14 - 29 )
29: For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath.

Those that had, in the parable went out and did the work necessary to bring forth something. They made an effort at whatever ability they were at, to do what was needed, to be diligent with what they were given.

I was a school teacher. One thing I always expressed to my kids was, “I don’t care where you are at ( referring to their ability ) always make an effort! I could live with them “missing” the mark, or “missing” what was needed…. we could correct that and learn from it; but putting for no effort, never got them anywhere with me, or in class. Others would begin to pass those by who would put forth no effort.

There was one servant in the parable who did not make an effort, he says he was afraid. Jesus remarks to what was said to that servant by his lord; that servant was called wicked, slothful, and what he originally had was given to someone else. He had made no effort.

( Mark 4: 26 - 29 )
Referring back to previous verses in Mark 4: 24-25; Jesus speaking goes on to say;

26:So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground;
  The seed is the word of God ( Luke 8:11 ); and we are to preach it.

27:And should sleep, and rise night and day, and the seed should spring and grow up, he knoweth not how.

28:For the earth bringeth forth fruit of herself; first the blade, then the ear, after that the full corn in the ear.

29:But when the fruit is brought forth, immediately he putteth in the sickle, because the harvest is come.

We are to preach the gospel of Christ. How that Jesus died for our sins, according to the scriptures, how that he was buried, and he rose again the third day, according to the scriptures.

We are all responsible for what we have heard, or been privy to. If we have heard the gospel, walking in it, we are commissioned to preach it. Wherever we are at.

I was a daughter of two parents who were very good basketball players, and the granddaughter of a coach. I was expected, because of what I had been privy to hearing; whether at dinner, on the court, in a living room, etc. to do what I had been taught. Not everyone else knew what I did, or received the instructions I had, they didn’t hear what I did; so when correction would come, whatever the case, it always seemed tougher on me…. you know why? I had heard what others hadn't; therefore, more was expected out of me.

We don’t know when we put forth the effort in preaching the word of God, in preaching the gospel, where it will go, where it will fall, who will hear it, but we are to still do it, we are still responsible because of what we have heard.

Acts 2:47
….. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.

Matthew 24:14 And this gospel must be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come

We know there is coming weeks of the harvest….
God Bless you!

  3. Very good and clear exhortation. Part of Luke 12:48 came up as I was reading this. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.

  4. I have appreciated that scripture in Luke...
    But have not fastened my eyes on the rest of that verse like I did when I saw your posting of it. Appreciate what you shared here Pam!
    Thank you.
